The Balbi were a Venetian patrician family, numbered among the Casade Nove who joined the Grand Council before the lock-out.
According to the historian Freschot they descended from the Roman family of Corneli Balbi, who came to Ravenna via Pavia and Milan. It then divided into two branches, one of which came directly to Venice, while the other spent a period in Aquileia.
