Leonardo Loredan

was the 75th Doge of the Republic of Venice.

Skilled and wise politician, he managed in life to protect the interests of the city Venice in a very difficult period of its history.

Elected on October 2, 1501, during his doge, he had to accept an onerous peace with the Ottoman Empire (1503), and face the League of Cambrai, which waged war in the Venetian mainland territories for a long time (1509 – 1517) with the failed attempt to destroy the power of Venice.

Respected in life, after his death he was made the subject of an investigation for the appropriation of state funds and the heirs were condemned to compensate the state.
